Periodic inspections

The first periodic inspection is made to ensure, among other things, that the equipment or plant functions safely, that the automation system functions appropriately, and that any required markings, certificates and other necessary documents are up-to-date.

Boiler plant inspections also include checking that the plant will be in or can be put into a controlled, safe state in a malfunction situation. In addition, it is checked that any danger caused by a potential discharge of pressure will be minimal.

Subsequent periodic inspections are carried out to ensure that the equipment functions safely and appropriately, and that the various documents involved are up-to-date. The maximum interval for periodic inspections varies from 2 to 4 years, depending on the equipment in question.

Pressure equipment must also undergo internal inspections and pressure tests at specific intervals. In certain situations, these inspections may be partly or entirely replaced by a pressure equipment monitoring programme as separately agreed with a notified body.

Periodic inspections may be replaced by a condition monitoring system. The condition monitoring system has to be approved by a notified body.
